To begin with, I am sorry for the quality of these photographs. This is one of my favorite garments I've ever made, but the pictures don't do it justice.
I was keener than a Mormon on Sunday to make the Gather Mortmain dress because of its rare inset waistband feature. This pattern is soo lovely. It's easy/beginner intermediate. I bought it from Fabric Rehab -- awesome site -- and I got 2.5 meters of Forever Vintage cotton lawn there too. (At £7.20 per metre, with lots of fabric leftover, I figure this dress cost about £12 -- total bargain).
Alterations: I made substantial edits to the waistband due to a) personal preference and b) reading other posts about the unsupported waistband. So, I added iron-on interfacing to the back of the waistband, AND, I added an internal waistband that covered all my waistband seams, with top stitching at the bottom to secure it. (I need to take a picture of this.) I also added side-seam pockets, which were a little tricky because of the box pleats, but I managed to make them lie flat with a lot of pressing. That being said, next time, I will not add side-seam pockets. :-)
I love, love, love Gather's technique for inserting an exposed zipper, and I'm a big fan of how trendy it makes the dress. I also love the clever button detail on the sleeve. I wore this on our date night to Belfast's Cathedral Quarter last weekend (would have been a great place to take a picture huh? But.... I didn't). Anyway, it's a totally comfortable dress that fits like a glove.
